It was
opening day of muzzleloader season for deer and I
was headed to Hyco for our November tournament.
Since I don't care to much about deer hunting, it
didn't bother me. I didn't get a chance to practice
for this tournament so I wasn't sure as to how low
the lake level was. It was freezing cold but the
water temperature was 70+ degrees depending on where
you were in the lake. I made 2 stops first thing
fishing with a jerkbait on rocky points but only
managed to catch a couple of 12 inch fish. As the
day went on, that bite died out. I moved to the
bank and started throwing a crankbait as well as a
carolina rig around the deepest boat docks that I
could find. I knew that with the lake being low,
the better fish would be around the deeper boat
docks. I caught a lot of 13" fish but I managed to
catch 3 14" fish off of a Carolina rig and culled
out my 2 12" fish throwing the crankbait around
stumps as well as boat docks. The rest of the day I
hunted for a big fish but I never could get one
to bite. All in all I had a good day of fishing at
Hyco and really look forward to going back for the
December year-ending tournament. See you there!
