Hyco Lake Tournament

Condition - Several days prior to the tournament we had unusually warm temperatures. High in the upper 70's and lows in the 50's. Water temps where in the 60's. The night before the tournament we had a cold front that drop the temperature by 20 degree’s.

Blastoff - The fat lady was set to sing on the final tournament of the 2006 season for the 13 anglers that showed up to brave the cold weather that had come in the night before.

Preview - Mr T. Massey had wrapped up first place. There was no catching him this year, How ever there was the battle shaping up for the 2n and 3^rd place anglers which happen to be Vincent ( son in law ) (VS) Overman ( Father in law) the battle for 2^nd place was on. Overman had taken a two pound lead over Vincent at the last tournament on Mayo. Overman had surprised Vincent with a late comeback. Vincent’s determination had been proven to be tenacious. Overman new Vincent was coming with all rods blazing. It’s was on like two pots of neck bone!!!!

Review - With the winds blowing out of the north east 10 to 15 mph, the cold front took its toll on the fish. There were only three limits weighed in. Vincent took top honors with five fish weighing 11.75. C. Massey weighed in 11.1, and Overman with 8.19.

Patterns - A lot of small fish were caught on a jig, the wining bag was caught on a spinner bait. Vincent said, he had an earlier limit on the blade. Slow roll was the deal on off shore structure. Vincent caught nearly 30 fish in the eight hour event.

Only one of Vincent’s creel was caught on a finesse jig. (Boat Dock) Determination was the key. Overman’s limit came on a spinner bait on the wind blown rip rap. C. Massey limit was caught on spinner bait also.

Competition this year has been awesome. Next year’s competition should be better than years past. The schedule has been set with less tournaments and a few role changes for the better. We are set for “ 07"
